It's been awhile...

I have thankfully been very busy with custom orders and so my blogging has suffered. I LOVE the challenge of custom orders as you just never know what someone will want created. I had a few "outside the box" requests and learned a lot of new mixed media techniques while creating these custom pieces.
One of the orders requested fall colors, and since that is my FAVORITE season,I had fun mixing warm rustic tones. Be creative....

New challenges

Today has been fun. I received 2 custom orders this morning and as a result I played with some new color combinations in order to match the customer's wall color without totally blending in. I also finished discovering and loving a new blue/brown color scheme. The embellishments arrived today for my Christmas signs so I will be spend the afternoon figuring out just where I want them. My helper Jack is thoroughly bored with all of it.... Be creative :o)

It's Christmas time...

Scared you with that title didn't I? Well it is Christmas time at Studio 7 as I am beginning my Christmas signs today. The kids are back to school and I have 3 Fall shows coming up and folks are going to be expecting Christmas items. I opened an Etsy shop yesterday and that is going well so far.
Be creative...

I thought I was taking a break before this weekend's show but I was wrong. As I sold a few pieces that I had planned on taking to the show I had to make some more. Pure torture right? Now I want to make a dozen more :o)As an aside: This day in history August 15, 1969: The Woodstock Music and Art Fair opened in upstate New York.Have fun today and be creative!

Is it Sunday yet?

Super excited for this Sunday's Avant-Garde Art Show. I will have the privilege of being surrounded by more than 125 gifted artists. I have worked hard for this and have enjoyed every minute. Being the OCD queen that I am, everything is already packed and ready. My fingers are itching to create some more however, as this is the last full week of summer vacation I plan to spend some quality time with my mini-me. Peace...

Not enough hours in the day

It's been more than a few days since my last post. My husband was actually home for 4 solid days and we had a full calendar including seeing Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan on Sunday night. Today after catching up on housework I found some time to experiment with new color combinations and I am really happy with the results. 8 new pieces in the works and 4 shows coming up. Life is good... Peace.

Like a kid at Christmas

I made a trek to Columbus today and boy did I stock up at my favorite store Dick Blick. 62 canvasses and 19 tubes of paint. Now I think my head is going to spin off of my shoulders as I want to attack all the canvasses at once ;o)

Sweetness

In one of my favorite quotes (from one of my favorite authors) John Steinbeck said "For how can one know color in perpetual green, and what good is warmth without cold to give it sweetness?" Of course this statement could apply to any facet of life but I feel its connection to art most vividly. For years I have dabbled in many creative endeavors involving writing, photography, and painting. As many artists can attest to art is like a roller coaster. Highs and lows in inspiration and in the finished product. The lows give the highs their sweetness. Artists are horribly critical of their own creations and this can hold them back. I am learning to let go and not be so critical of myself. To just let the brush lead my hand and the colors and textures speak to me. To step back and pause to evaluate before I add that extra layer.
